Deacon Nathaniel Adams, Sr. was born on August 8, 1927 to the late Council Adams and Ola Mae Adams-Bristow of Oxmoor, Alabama. He was one of eight siblings born to this union.

Nathaniel received his formal education from Rosedale High School and later matriculated to service in the United States Army. He worked faithfully at United States Steel Corporation (Fairfield, AL) for forty years. Nathaniel worked for an additional fifteen years at Computer Utilization (Birmingham, AL) before his retirement.

Deacon Adams dedicated his life to Christ at a young age and was a member of Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church for over eighty years. In addition to his membership, he served as a head deacon and teacher of the Hawthrone Adult Men Bible Class for more than fifty years. His loyal service to Shady Grove was one of his favorite “hats’ of all the beloved titles he wore.

Nathainel was married to Wille Mae Adams for sixty-one years (March 20, 1949 – December 16, 2010) before her peaceful transition home to the Lord. To this joyous and beautiful union five children were born.

He departed this life on December 2, 2021 after a battle with cancer, surrounded by family.

He leaves to cherish his memory five children – Nathaniel Adams Jr. (Delois), Saundra Gayle Smedley (Eugene), Linda Bogus (Eugene), Ronald Adams (Bethane), and Donald Adams; One dear sister, Mildred (Issac) Bristow; ten grandchildren; Six great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

He will be immeasurably missed by his family, friends, community, and church family; however, his strong faith comforts us with the sure promise of being reunited with him again.
