Obituary of Ethel Jenkins. December 17, 1922 – September 5, 2000.
Sister Ethel Mary Jenkins, “Honey,” as she was affectionately called by family and friends, was born December 17, 1922, in the Smythee Community of Alabama. She was one of six children born to the union of Walter Sanford and Minnie Lee Adams.
At the age of twelve, she moved to Oxmoor where she attended Oxmoor Elementary School and later Rosedale High School.
During the former union of Ethel to Preston Dukes, she was blessed with five children. She later married Mr. Daniel Scott Jenkins and they were blessed with three children. They Spent over fitty years together.
Honey accepted Christ at any early age and joined the Springfield Baptist Church. She was introduced to the Adventist Message from the late A.C. Jenkins. Through bible studies she accepted the “truth” and was baptized in the Ephesus Seventh Day Adventist Church in 1957. In 1972, Honey along with nine other charter members started the First Seventh Day Adventist Church of Adamsville. Faithfully serving God, Ethel held the following church positions: Sabbath School Superintendent, assistant treasurer, head deaconess, church clerk, and she served on the usher board. Honey conducted many bible studies with her husband, Brother Jenkins. Ethel was a devoted member to both Ephesus Seventh Day Adventist and First Seventh Day Adventist of Adamsville Churches and was always willing to share knowledge of the gospel.
Among holding church positions, she was also a member of the Christian Union #17 ad the Sand Ridge Civic League.
Along with being devoted to her family, friends, and church, Ethel was a dutiful personal care attendant to many families throughout the years.
Honey departed this life on Tuesday, September 5, 2000, in the comfort of her home. She was preceded in death by two daughters: Elosie Dukes and Geneva Jenkins.
She leaves to cherish her memories: a loving husband, Daniel Scott Jenkins, Sr.; six children, Horace (Freddie) Dukes, Everett (Linda) Dukes, Douglas (Hattie) Dukes, Theodore Dukes, Shirley Jenkins Ross and Daniel (Freddie) Jenkins, Jr. ; Two sisters, Irma Whitmore and Cleola Rhodes; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
