Historical Obituary of Mattie Lee Barclay – January 10, 1927 – June 21, 1992.
The late Mattie Lee Barclay was born in Chambers County, Alabama to Lucile Jackson and Tom Ash on January 10, 1927.
She later moved to Gadsden. Then she was united in holy matrimony to the late Benjamin Barclay in 1948, and to this union three children were born.
She attended Morning Star Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Board, sang in the choir, and remained a member of Morning Star Baptist Church until her death.
She departed this life on June 21, 1992, at Riverview Regional Medical Center.
She leaves to cherish her memory three children – one son: James E. Barclay, Columbia, South Carolina; two daughters: Stella Barclay, Gadsden Alabama, Lucile Barclay, Columbia, South Carolina; one uncle: Ernest King, Fairfax, Alabama; one aunt: Inez Smiley, Talladega, Alabama, One daughter-in-law; Essie M. Barclay, Columbia, South Carolina; eight grandchildren; three foster sisters: Mrs. Odessa Saulsbery, Gerturde Brooks and Mrs. Texie Williams; and a host of other relatives, and many special friends.
